MORE INFO: Maia studied a double degree of Music/Arts at the University of New South Wales, majoring in Performance (Vocals). During her time at UNSW she was a recurring soloist for the Collegium Musicum Choir and the Burgundian Consort concerts including Dvorak’s Mass in D and Allegri’s Miserere. She appeared in numerous cabaret nights for the UNSW theatrical society (NUTS) and also performed the role of Donna in their production of the musical City of Angels. She has been a part of the Sydney based Renaissance ensemble Capella Sublima for 5 years performing at masses at churches such as St John’s Camperdown as well as St Mary’s Cathedral. She has also been a soloist for the Opera company Opera Prometheus in their 2011 music festival called ‘Sydney in Love’.
This performance background covers Classical and Musical Theatre styles, but she has also covered Folk and Pop music for various corporate gigs and weddings around Sydney. She is also part of an acappella Jazz vocal group called Lilac who perform across the Sydney bar scene.
Having a strong classical technical background is what allows Maia to teach the foundations of correct vocal technique and apply them to whatever style suits the students’ personality and voice. Maia promotes the importance of catering to the individual student depending on what they want to get out of each lesson, whether it be preparing for exams or just for fun while still developing their musical and vocal skills. Maia’s lessons cover posture, breathing, support, technique exercises, song learning and performing/story telling. If the student is open to it, she also covers sighting singing and aural skills. Maia is a young and enthusiastic teacher whose main prerogative is keeping the lessons fun while still laying the foundations of correct vocal technique.
